Understanding the Home Design and Build Process

So you’ve decided you want to have a home designed and built specifically for you. That’s great! It’s the best way to make sure that your home is the perfect fit for you. If you’ve never gone through the home design and build process before, it’s helpful to know what that process looks like.

Before Construction Begins

Our process begins well before construction begins on your new home. We start with an initial visit that allows us to understand your vision for your home. This is the best time to ask any and all questions you may have. Once we know what you want for your home, we’ll have a pre-construction meeting. This meeting outlines the requirements and expectations for the construction. Drawings and other documents will be reviewed and major items will be discussed. The last step before construction begins is to draw up a contract that each party signs.

The Construction and Design

Next, the construction begins. This is when virtually all of the heavy lifting happens (literally). From site preparation to the finishing touches, there is a ton of work to do. The foundation must be laid, the framing installed, the electrical and plumbing systems put into place, the drywall added, the flooring put in, the walls painted, and the hardware added along with all the other details that go into turning the idea of a home into a reality. We take pride in the homes we construct, so you can trust that the final product will be something you’re sure to love.

After Construction Is Complete

Here’s where things start to get really exciting. The construction is complete and you’re nearly ready to move into your new home. Before you get to that point, however, the home will be reviewed and a punch list will be written up. This list identifies points in the construction that need to be fixed or finished before you make the final payment for the house. That punch list will then be addressed, after which you make the final payment.

There are a lot of steps that go into the home design and build process. The good news is that we know how to help you through it so you don’t feel like you’re lost or overwhelmed. We love working closely with our clients to make sure that their vision for their home becomes a reality. That’s our goal and our commitment to you.
