Timeless Decor for the Holidays

We’re at the beginning of the holiday season, which means it’s time to break out your holiday decor. Decorating your home for the holidays is such a great way to get into the holiday spirit, to really enjoy the festivities. Each holiday has timeless decor that is perfect for adding to virtually any home.

Halloween

Halloween kicks off the holiday season towards the end of the year. Orange and black are quintessential Halloween colors that are great to incorporate throughout your holiday decor. Think pumpkins and black cats–two classic Halloween icons. Ghosts, skeletons, and witches also make the list of timeless Halloween icons. Feature these in and around your home to create a festive, classic Halloween look.

Thanksgiving

What’s the first thing that pops into your mind when you think of Thanksgiving? For many of us, it’s turkey. Turkeys are perhaps one of the most well-known and classic symbols of Thanksgiving. Cornucopias are a close second. These make excellent centerpieces for Thanksgiving tables (if you have room for anything other than food on it, anyway). Little turkey figurines strategically placed on mantles or shelves can add a great festive touch too. Decorate your home for Thanksgiving using a palette of warm colors like reds, oranges, yellows, browns, and perhaps a splash of gold here or there. Using candles in these colors is a great option. To breathe some festive life into your home, try incorporating fall foliage into your decor.

Hanukkah

Blue and white (or sometimes silver) are the colors to feature in and around your home during Hanukkah. Gold accents also wouldn’t be out of place and can add class to your decor. They can be incorporated into everything–home decor, wrapping for presents, candles, and more. Timeless symbols of Hanukkah include the Star of David, dreidels, and, of course, the menorah, complete with candles. You could make a Star of David out of fairy lights and hang it on the wall. Add a small dish with dreidels to a coffee table. Because the light of the menorah is meant to be shared, it is traditionally placed on a table, outside your door, or in a window. Just make sure that you place it out of reach of children and pets!

Christmas

There are plenty of options when it comes to timeless Christmas decor. Red, green, silver, and gold are the go-to colors for a classic Christmas color scheme. Incorporate plenty of white to give the eyes a break from those strong color contrasts. Decide whether you want to opt for secular decor, religious decor, or a mix of both. Santa, reindeer, snowflakes, and gingerbread treats are fantastic secular options, while nativities, angels, and Christmas stars are perfect for those who prefer a more religious theme. Christmas trees and lights are also solid inclusions on the list of timeless decor options and fit comfortably into both secular and religious decor.

Some people love using contemporary decorations and finding new ways to decorate for the holidays. While there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, it never hurts to incorporate some of the timeless elements that fit with any given holiday. Classic colors and symbols for each holiday can be a great way to bring your holiday decor together, creating a cohesive look that you’re sure to love.
