Popular Lighting Styles to Use in Your Kitchen

There isn’t a single room in your home that doesn’t benefit from quality lighting. However, your kitchen is particularly important when it comes to this topic. It’s a matter of both style and safety, given the amount of time that people spend in the kitchen; along with the various sharp and hot things that get handled on a regular basis. This is in part why it’s a good idea to incorporate different styles of lighting throughout your kitchen. So what are some lighting styles worth using?

Pendant Lights

If you need a way to get your kitchen lighting honed into a particular area, pendant lights have you covered. If you are not already familiar, a pendant is a light fixture that hangs from the ceiling usually suspended by a cord, chain, or metal rod. While such an arrangement does make it easier to get light closer to work spaces, it can also get in the way of moving around your kitchen. This is why such lights are often installed over islands and countertops, since you won’t be walking under the lights in these areas. Pendant lights come in a wide variety of different looks, so you’ll be able to find something that suits your kitchen and style.

Recessed Lights

Recessed lights are an excellent option if you want to preserve the look of an open concept space. They can offer excellent illumination and have minimal cleaning needs. Keep in mind that the fact that recessed lights don’t protrude into the room means that they need to be set into the ceiling. That means you’ll need to have plenty of space up there for the housing, free of wiring or plumbing that could get in the way. You should also be aware that you may need more lights if you want to illuminate a larger area, like a living room.

Surface Lights

Surface lights are pretty self explanatory in what they are. They can be a great way to illuminate your kitchen aside from accent lights, such as pendants as they don’t hang down or limit visualization like the other style lights we’ve talked about. Of course, this means that they do visually break up the ceiling, but they are generally easier to clean than recessed lights tend to be. There are again plenty of options to choose from, so you should be able to find fixtures that suit your preferred aesthetic.

Incorporating different styles of lighting can help ensure that your kitchen is well lit at all times. It can also help you create the aesthetic and style you wish to have in your kitchen. There are so many different styles of lighting and options within each that you should be able to create exactly the look you want for your kitchen.
