Master Suite Must-Haves for Maximum Comfort

There are few things that are more important to your overall health and wellbeing than the quality of sleep you get. Part of making sure you get enough quality sleep is ensuring you have a comfortable environment. As a homeowner, your master suite (bedroom and bathroom area) should have all of your must haves to ensure this maximum comfort.

Adjustable Lighting
Lighting is a big deal when it comes to comfort. If the light is too dim, you’ll strain your eyes. Conversely, if it’s too bright, you’ll be uncomfortable. It’s also worth noting that different levels of lighting are appropriate for different times and moods. Having adjustable lighting in your master suite can ensure that you’ll be comfortable regardless of whether you’re just waking up in the morning, need some extra light at night, or are trying to sleep. To achieve this manipulation of light, dimmable fixtures are an excellent medium for achievement. This solution is inexpensive and ensures the highest level of comfort for your desired mood. Another great investment are blackout curtains. These curtains ensure that no unwanted excess light can shine through.

Plenty of Storage
Having enough storage can be a sore point for many homeowners. If you don’t have enough storage, your space is likely to feel cluttered, no matter how much physical square footage you actually have. If you are renovating your master suite, do research into storage systems that fit within your space or creative solutions that hide your every day clutter. If you are building a custom new home, take the time to make sure the layout you are creating ensures maximum space and storage for your items. This is a fun place to get creative and ensure your master suite works for you. Another place to consider maximum storage is your closet. For us, a large walk-in closet is a must. Walk in closets are a fun way to store all of your apparel, accessories, and other items without having to hide or cram it behind a door. If you do not have the option to do a walk in closet, storage chests, dressers, bookshelves, and floating shelves can provide additional storage options if needed.

A Luxurious Shower and Bath
Having a bathroom attached to your bedroom is one of the hallmarks of a master suite. It’s not enough to just have any old bathroom if you’re going for maximum comfort. You need one with a luxurious shower and separate bath. These areas are especially important for those days where you want nothing more than to spend some quality time with your thoughts and unwind after a hard day’s work. For your shower, opt for one with a bench built in so you can truly relax and indulge in some extra sprays to get a quality experience. For a bathtub, a stand alone is one of my go to favorites. They not only allow you to completely fall into it, but they are aesthetically beautiful as well.

If this is still not to your maximum desired comfort, invest in radiant floor heating in your bathroom. That way, you never have to step out of a warm shower onto a cold tile floor ever again.

Your home should be a place of refuge, and nowhere should that be more true than your own master suite. As you design your master suite, make sure you take into account the must-have features to be as comfortable as possible. You’ll be glad you did when you get to enjoy them in the years to come.
